In 1947, when the Partition of India displaced thousands of Sindhi Hindu families from Sindh (present-day Pakistan), they arrived on a barren, largely uninhabited stretch of land in Kutch. What they had lost in material wealth, they made up for in enterprise, resilience, and an entrepreneurial spirit that could not be extinguished.
Named in honour of Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhidham grew from a refugee settlement into one of western India’s most dynamic commercial cities — driven entirely by the will of its people.
